Physiotherapy includes the treatment of a variety of common problems such as backache, neck ache and shoulder pain. Treatments include using a range of skills and techniques including manipulation and massage, stretches and exercises, state-of-the-art electrotherapy treatments and advice.

Lower leg massage therapy.

Some physiotherapists are also qualified to use acupuncture as part of their treatments.

All physiotherapists at the Oakwood Physiotherapy Clinic are Chartered Physiotherapists. Achieving Chartered Physiotherapist status means that a physiotherapist must go through rigorous degree-level training for three years. After passing exams, they become state registered and qualified to work alongside medical teams in the NHS and in private practice. Therefore you are in the safest hands when visiting them at the Clinic for treatments.

Your First Appointment

At your first visit your physiotherapist will take a history of your condition and your general health. A comprehensive assessment will follow during which the physiotherapist will use highly skilled clinical tests to check the cause of the problem, whether it is a ligament, muscle or joint problem or a combination of several factors. We take a holistic approach at the Clinic, whereby we may analyse the whole body in order to treat the problem effectively.

Treatment goals are decided on together and the physiotherapist will estimate the number of treatments required to obtain these goals. We understand that getting people back to their chosen activities - work and hobbies, family and other interests - is of paramount importance. Many patients have been surprised and delighted that we have returned them to a sport or hobby which they had thought they would never be able to return to. Our physios have regular in house training and undertake continuous professional development studies and courses in order to keep up with current research in physiotherapy. Within the team there are physios with special interests and training and we may recommend a particular physiotherapist with the greatest expertise for your problem.

" I used to be very round shouldered because of a scoliosis but after a course of treatment with her my posture has dramatically improved to a normal posture position and that upright feeling is fantastic after decades of being bent over. My knees wouldn't bend much, I couldn't kneel and my hips were hurting me. After a few sessions with her I was more mobile than I'd been for two or three years and getting rid of the walking stick was the best thing since sliced bread. I started to do things around the house I'd wanted to do for ages."
